After getting to enjoy most of mesh yesterday (I only had to moderate one panel), I’ll be in the hot-seat this morning when I do a keynote chat with Craigslist CEO Jim Buckmaster. In so many ways, Craigslist is a fascinating phenomenon: a business plan that could easily generate tens of millions of additional dollars in revenue if the management team gave the green light; a service that is mostly free to use; a no-frills Web site that’s just so un-Web 2.0 (or maybe it is because there’s lot of white); and a brand that has become one of the world’s most popular with little (or no) investment in marketing. It should be a really interesting conversation. For a deep look at Craigslist, check out this story that appeared in the Wall Street Journal last year.Update: If the audience had its way, Buckmaster would have been on the stage for another hour. Not surprisingly, he was peppered with questions about Craigslist, how it operates and its corporate philosophy. Armed with a dry sense of humour, Buckmaster charmed and educated the audience.
